The fashion industry is moving in a new direction. It is becoming self-aware of its potential as a powerful vehicle for social change.
STUFF (Stand Up For Fashion) is on the cutting edge of this transformation. By opening up the conversation on these issues, and creating concrete action plans, we will combine the fashion world’s undeniable impact on social trends with greater social responsibility.
Our EDUCATION efforts will reach out to and engage consumers of fashion, such as young women and girls, with messages of health, self-esteem, and community.
Our AWARENESS work will focus on fashion professionals, on how the industry frequently functions against the best interests of those it touches – from promoting unrealistic concepts of female beauty, to tolerating low pay and dangerous conditions for workers. We will work with major industry figures to adopt an action plan for improving the fashion world’s impact and image.
In Spring 2013, STUFF will host a one-day fashion industry summit, to discuss how the industry can improve its practices on several fronts, such as:
Creating humane and environmentally safe working conditions.
Promoting ethnic and racial diversity throughout the industry (beyond the runways)
Ending the use of under-age models
When fashion’s leaders–designers, models, icons, bloggers, and more–get together and get active, nothing is impossible. Join the conversation.
